The Beggars Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEEFFGHIIJJKKLL KKMMNNKKOOPPQQKKRRSS LLTTUUVV

It is the beggars who possess the earthA
Kings on their throne have but a narrow girthA
Of some poor known dominion these possessB
All the unknown and that vast happinessC
Of the uncertainty of human thingsD
Wandering on eternal wanderingsD
They know the world and tasting but the breadE
Of charity know man and strangely ledE
By some vague certain and appointed handF
Know fate and being lonely understandF
Some little of the thing without a nameG
That sits by the roadside and talks with themH
When they are silent for the soul is shyI
If more than its own shadow loiter byI
They and the birds are old acquaintancesJ
Knowing the dawn together theirs it isJ
To settle on the dusty land like crowsK
The ragged vagabonds of the air who knowsK
How they too shall be fed day after dayL
And surer than the birds for are not theyL
The prodigal sons of God our piteousK
Aliens outcast and accusing usK
Do they not ask of us their own and waitM
Humbly among the dogs about the gateM
While we are feasting They will wait till nightN
Who shall wait longer Dim shadowy whiteN
The highway calls they follow till it endsK
And all the way they walk among their friendsK
Sun wind and rain their tearful sister rainO
Their brother wind Forest and hill and plainO
Know them and are forgotten Grey and oldP
Their feet begin to linger brown arms foldP
The heavy peace of earth about their heartQ
And soon and without trouble they departQ
On the last journey As the beggar liesK
With naked face remembering the skiesK
I think he only wonders Shall I findR
A good road still a hayrick to my mindR
A tavern now and then upon the roadS
He has been earth's guest he goes the old abodeS
Drops to the old horizon the old wayL
Of yesterday and every yesterdayL
We heavy laden miserably proudT
Because our hands ache and our backs are bowedT
With dusty treasures have so much to quitU
He nothing nor the memory of itU
O the one happiness when out of breathV
Our feet slip and we stumble upon deathV
