The Nobleman's Wedding Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDF GHGH IJKJ LMAM JNOP

Once I was at a nobleman's weddingA
'Twas of a girl that proved unkindB
But now she begins to think of her lossesC
Her former true lover still runs in her mindB
-
Here is the token of gold that was brokenD
Seven long years love I have kept it for your sakeE
You gave to me as a true lover's tokenD
No longer with me love it shall remainF
-
The bride she sat at the head of the tableG
The words he said she marked them right wellH
To sit any longer she was not ableG
And down at the bridegroom's feet she fellH
-
One request I do make of youI
And I hope you will grant it to meJ
To lie this night in the arms of my motherK
And ever after to lie with theeJ
-
No sooner asked than it was grantedL
With tears in her eyes she went to bedM
And early early the very next morningA
He rose and found that this young bride was deadM
-
He took her up in his arms so softlyJ
And carried her to the meadow so greenN
And covered her over with green leaves and laurelsO
Thinking she might come to life againP
