The night before Larry was stretchedA
The boys they all paid him a visitB
A bait in their sacks too they fetchedA
They sweated their duds till they riz itC
For Larry was ever the ladD
When a boy was condemned to the squeezerE
Would fence all the duds that he hadD
To help a poor friend to a sneezerE
And warm his gob 'fore he diedF
-
The boys they came crowding in fastG
They drew all their stools round about himH
Six glims round his trap case were placedI
He couldn't be well waked without 'emJ
When one of us asked could he dieK
Without having truly repentedL
Says Larry That's all in my eyeK
And first by the clargy inventedM
To get a fat bit for themselvesN
-
I'm sorry dear Larry says IK
To see you in this situationO
And blister my limbs if I lieK
I'd as lieve it had been my own stationO
Ochone it's all all over says heP
For the neck cloth I'll be forced to put onQ
And by this time to morrow you'll seeP
Your poor Larry as dead as a muttonO
Because why his courage was goodR
-
And I'll be cut up like a pieK
And my nob from my body be partedM
You're in the wrong box then says IK
For blast me if they're so hard heartedM
A chalk on the back of your neckS
Is all that Jack Ketch dares to give youT
Then mind not such trifles a feckS
For why should the likes of them grieve youT
And now boys come tip us the deckS
-
The cards being called for they playedU
Till Larry found one of them cheatedM
A dart at his napper he madeU
The boy being easily heatedM
Oh by the hokey you thiefV
I'll scuttle your nob with my daddleK
You cheat me because I'm in griefV
But soon I'll demolish your noddleK
And leave you your claret to drinkW
-
Then the clergy came in with his bookX
He spoke him so smooth and so civilK
Larry tipped him a Kilmainham lookX
And pitched his big wig to the devilK
Then sighing he threw back his headY
To get a sweet drop of the bottleK
And pitiful sighing he saidY
Oh the hemp will be soon round my throttleK
And choke my poor windpipe to deathZ
-
Through sure it's the best way to dieK
Oh the devil a better a livingA2
For sure when the gallows is highK
Your journey is shorter to heavenO
But what harasses Larry the mostB2
And makes his poor soul melancholyK
Is to think on the time when his ghostB2
Will come in a sheet to sweet MollyK
Oh sure it will kill her aliveC2
-
So moving these last words he spokeD2
We all vented our tears in a showerE
For my part I thought my heart brokeD2
To see him cut down like a flowerE
On his travels we watched him next dayE2
Oh the throttler I thought I could kill himH
But Larry not one word did sayE2
Nor changed till he came to King WilliamJ
Then musha his color grew whiteF2
-
When he came to the nubbling chitC
He was tucked up so neat and so prettyK
The rumbler jogged off from his feetG2
And he died with his feet to the cityK
He kicked too but that was all prideF
But soon you might see 'twas all overE
Soon after the noose was untiedF
And at darky we waked him in cloverE
And sent him to take a ground sweatH2
