The Chestnut Burr Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABC DDEE EEFG HHII DDJJ

A wee little nut lay deep in its nestA
Of satin and brown the softest and bestA
And slept and grew while its cradle rockedB
As it hung in the boughs that interlockedC
-
Now the house was small where the cradle layD
As it swung in the winds by night and dayD
For a thicket of underbrush fenced it roundE
This lone little cot by the great sun brownedE
-
This little nut grew and ere long it foundE
There was work outside on the soft green groundE
It must do its part so the world might knowF
It had tried one little seed to sowG
-
And soon the house that had kept it warmH
Was tossed about by the autumn stormH
The stem was cracked the old house fellI
And the chestnut burr was an empty shellI
-
But the little nut as it waiting layD
Dreamed a wonderful dream one dayD
Of how it should break its coat of brownJ
And live as a tree to grow up and downJ
