Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFG HIJI KDLE MEN MENE OEPE QDED RSTS RUVU UWTX

'Mak ready mak ready my merry men a'A
Our gude ship sails the morn 'B
'Now ever alack my master dearC
I fear a deadly stormD
-
'I saw the new moon late yestreenE
Wi' the auld moon in her armF
And if we gang to sea masterG
I fear we'll come to harm '-
-
They hadna sail'd a league a leagueH
A league but barely threeI
When the lift grew dark and the wind blew loudJ
And gurly grew the seaI
-
The ankers brak and the topmast lapK
It was sic a deadly stormD
And the waves cam owre the broken shipL
Till a' her sides were tornE
-
'Go fetch a web o' the silken claithM
Another o' the twineE
And wap them into our ship's sideN
And let nae the sea come in '-
-
They fetch'd a web o' the silken claithM
Another o' the twineE
And they wapp'd them round that gude ship's sideN
But still the sea came inE
-
O laith laith were our gude Scots lordsO
To wet their cork heel'd shoonE
But lang or a' the play was play'dP
They wat their hats aboonE
-
And mony was the feather bedQ
That flatter'd on the faemD
And mony was the gude lord's sonE
That never mair cam hameD
-
O lang lang may the ladies sitR
Wi' their fans into their handS
Before they see Sir Patrick SpensT
Come sailing to the strandS
-
And lang lang may the maidens sitR
Wi' their gowd kames in their hairU
A waiting for their ain dear lovesV
For them they'll see nae mairU
-
Half owre half owre to AberdourU
'Tis fifty fathoms deepW
And there lies gude Sir Patrick SpensT
Wi' the Scots lords at his feetX
