Johnny's The Lad I Love Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABA CDED FGHI JKLM FNFN OPEJP

As I roved out on a May morningA
Being in the youthful springA
I leaned my back close to the garden wallB
To hear the small birds singA
-
And to hear two lovers talk my dearC
To know what they would sayD
That I might know a little of her mindE
Before I would go awayD
-
Come sit you down my heart he saysF
All on this pleasant greenG
It's full three quarters of a year and moreH
Since together you and I have beenI
-
I will not sit on the grass she saidJ
Now nor any other timeK
For I hear you're engaged with another maidL
And your heart is no more of mineM
-
Oh I'll not believe what an old man saysF
For his days are well nigh doneN
Nor will I believe what a young man saysF
For he's fair to many a oneN
-
But I will climb a high high treeO
And rob a wild bird's nestP
And I'll bring back whatever I do findE
To the arms I love the best she saidJ
To the arms I love the bestP
