Icarus, Robert Jones's Second Book Of Songs And Airs Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDEEAA FFGGHH

LOVE wing'd my Hopes and taught me how to flyA
Far from base earth but not to mount too highA
nbsp nbsp nbsp For true pleasureB
nbsp nbsp nbsp Lives in measureB
nbsp nbsp nbsp Which if men forsakeC
Blinded they into folly run and grief for pleasure takeC
-
But my vain Hopes proud of their new taught flightD
Enamour'd sought to woo the sun's fair lightD
nbsp nbsp nbsp Whose rich brightnessE
nbsp nbsp nbsp Moved their lightnessE
nbsp nbsp nbsp To aspire so highA
That all scorch'd and consumed with fire now drown'd in woe they lieA
-
And none but Love their woeful hap did rueF
For Love did know that their desires were trueF
nbsp nbsp nbsp Though fate frownedG
nbsp nbsp nbsp And now drownedG
nbsp nbsp nbsp They in sorrow dwellH
It was the purest light of heav'n for whose fair love they fellH
