I M growing old t is surely soA
And yet how short it seemsB
Since I was but a sportive childC
Enjoying childish dreamsB
-
I cannot see the change that comesD
With such an even paceE
I mark not when the wrinkles fallF
Upon my fading faceE
-
I know I m old and yet my heartG
Is just as young and gayH
As e er it was before my locksI
Of bright brown turned to grayH
-
I know these eyes to other eyesJ
Look not so bright and gladK
As once they looked and yet tis norL
Because my heart s more sadK
-
I never watched with purer joyM
The floating clouds and glowing skiesJ
While glistening tears of rapture fillN
These old and fading eyesJ
-
And when I mark the cheek wkere onceO
The bright rose used to glowA
It grieves me not to see insteadP
The almond crown my browQ
-
I ve seen the flower grow old and paleR
And withered more than IS
I ve seen it lose its every charmT
Then droop away and dieS
-
And then I ve seen it rise againU
Bright as the beaming skyS
And young and pure and beautifulV
And felt that so shall IS
-
Then what if I am growing oldW
My heart is changeless stillN
And God has given me enoughX
This loving heart to fillN
-
I love to see the sun go downY
And lengthening shadows throwA
Along the ground while o er my headP
The clouds in crimson glowA
-
I see beyond those gorgeous cloudsZ
A country bright and fairA2
Which needs no sun God and the LambB2
Its light and beauty areC2
-
I seem to hear the wondrous songD2
Redeemed sinners singE2
And my heart leaps to join the throngD2
To praise the Heavenly KingE2
-
I seem to see three cherub boysF2
As hand in hand they goA
With golden curls and snowy wingsG2
Whose eyes with rapture glowA
-
When I was young I called them mineH2
Now Heaven s sweet ones are theyH
But I shall claim my own againU
When I am called awayH
-
Perhaps when heaven s bright gate I ve passedI2
They ll know from every otherJ2
The one who gave them back to GodK2
And haste to call me motherJ2
-
am glad I m growing oldW
For every day I spendL2
Shall bring me one day nearer thatM2
Bright day that has no endL2
