And yet how short it seems | B |
Since I was but a sportive child | C |
Enjoying childish dreams | B |
- | |
I cannot see the change that comes | D |
With such an even pace | E |
I mark not when the wrinkles fall | F |
Upon my fading face | E |
- | |
I know I m old and yet my heart | G |
Is just as young and gay | H |
As e er it was before my locks | I |
Of bright brown turned to gray | H |
- | |
I know these eyes to other eyes | J |
Look not so bright and glad | K |
As once they looked and yet tis nor | L |
Because my heart s more sad | K |
- | |
I never watched with purer joy | M |
The floating clouds and glowing skies | J |
While glistening tears of rapture fill | N |
These old and fading eyes | J |
- | |
And when I mark the cheek wkere once | O |
The bright rose used to glow | A |
It grieves me not to see instead | P |
The almond crown my brow | Q |
- | |
I ve seen the flower grow old and pale | R |
And withered more than I | S |
I ve seen it lose its every charm | T |
Then droop away and die | S |
- | |
And then I ve seen it rise again | U |
Bright as the beaming sky | S |
And young and pure and beautiful | V |
And felt that so shall I | S |
- | |
Then what if I am growing old | W |
My heart is changeless still | N |
And God has given me enough | X |
This loving heart to fill | N |
- | |
I love to see the sun go down | Y |
And lengthening shadows throw | A |
Along the ground while o er my head | P |
The clouds in crimson glow | A |
- | |
I see beyond those gorgeous clouds | Z |
A country bright and fair | A2 |
Which needs no sun God and the Lamb | B2 |
Its light and beauty are | C2 |
- | |
I seem to hear the wondrous song | D2 |
Redeemed sinners sing | E2 |
And my heart leaps to join the throng | D2 |
To praise the Heavenly King | E2 |
- | |
I seem to see three cherub boys | F2 |
As hand in hand they go | A |
With golden curls and snowy wings | G2 |
Whose eyes with rapture glow | A |
- | |
When I was young I called them mine | H2 |
Now Heaven s sweet ones are they | H |
But I shall claim my own again | U |
When I am called away | H |
- | |
Perhaps when heaven s bright gate I ve passed | I2 |
They ll know from every other | J2 |
The one who gave them back to God | K2 |
And haste to call me mother | J2 |
- | |
am glad I m growing old | W |
For every day I spend | L2 |
Shall bring me one day nearer that | M2 |
Bright day that has no end | L2 |
