She's gone and twice the summer's sunA
Has gilt Regina's towersB
And melted wild Angora's snowsC
And warmed Exina's bowersB
The flowerets twice on hill and daleD
Have bloomed and died awayE
And twice the rustling forest leavesF
Have fallen to decayE
-
And thrice stern winter's icy handG
Has checked the river's flowH
And three times o'er the mountains thrownI
His spotless robe of snowH
-
Two summers springs and autumns sadJ
Three winters cold and greyE
And is it then so long agoH
That wild November dayE
-
They say such tears as children weepK
Will soon be dried awayE
That childish grief however strongL
Is only for a dayE
-
And parted friends how dear soe'erE
Will soon forgotten beM
It may be so with other heartsN
It is not thus with meM
-
My mother thou wilt weep no moreE
For thou art gone aboveO
But can I ever cease to mournP
Thy good and fervent loveO
-
While that was mine the world to meM
Was sunshine bright and fairE
No feeling rose within my heartQ
But thou couldst read it thereE
-
And thou couldst feel for all my joysR
And all my childish caresS
And never weary of my playE
Or scorn my foolish fearsT
-
Beneath thy sweet maternal smileU
All pain and sorrow fledV
And even the very tears were sweetW
Upon thy bosom shedV
-
Thy loss can never be repairedX
I shall not know againY
While life remains the peaceful joyZ
That filled my spirit thenY
-
Where shall I find a heart like thineA2
While life remains to meM
And where shall I bestow the loveO
I ever bore for theeM
-
