The Cranes Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGH IJKLMINWe thought they were gulls at first | A |
while they were distant | B |
The two cranes flying out of a natural morning | C |
They circled twice about our house and sank | D |
Their long legs drooping down over the wood | E |
We saw their wings flash white | F |
Frayed at the black tip | G |
And heard their harsh cry like a rusty screw | H |
- | |
Down in the next field shy and angular | I |
They darted their long necks in the grass for fish | J |
They would not have us close but shambled coyly | K |
Ridiculous caught on the ground Yet our fields | L |
Under their feet became a fen the sky | M |
That was blue July became watery November | I |
And echoing with the cries of foreign birds | N |
