Sophia-s Fool-s-cap Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFFGGHH IIJJGGK

SOPHIA was a little childA
Obliging good and very mildA
Yet lest of dress she should be vainB
Mamma still dress'd her well but plainB
Her parents sensible and kindC
Wish'd only to adorn her mindC
No other dress when good had sheD
But useful neat simplicityD
-
Though seldom yet when she was rudeE
Or ever in a naughty moodE
Her punishment was this disgraceF
A large fine cap adorn'd with laceF
With feathers and with ribbons tooG
The work was neat the fashion newG
Yet as a fool's cap was its nameH
She dreaded much to wear the sameH
-
A lady fashionably gayI
Did to mamma a visit payI
Sophia stared then whisp'ring saidJ
'Why dear mamma look at her headJ
To be so tall and wicked tooG
The strangest thing I ever knewG
What naughty tricks pray has she doneK
That they have put that fool's cap on '-
