'I THINK I want some pies this morning 'A
Said Dick stretching himself and yawningB
So down he threw his slate and booksC
And saunter'd to the pastry cook'sC
-
And there he cast his greedy eyesD
Round on the jellies and the piesD
So to select with anxious careE
The very nicest that was thereE
-
At last the point was thus decidedF
As his opinion was dividedG
'Twixt pie and jelly being lothH
Either to leave he took them bothI
-
Now Richard never could be pleasedJ
To stop when hunger was appeasedJ
But would go on to eat still moreK
When he had had an ample storeK
-
'No not another now ' said DickL
'Dear me I feel extremely sickL
I cannot even eat this bitM
I wish I had not tasted it '-
-
Then slowing rising from his seatN
He threw his cheesecake in the streetN
And left the tempting pastry cook'sC
With very discontented looksC
-
Just then a man with wooden legO
Met Dick and held his hat to begO
And while he told his mournful caseP
Look'd at him with imploring faceP
-
Dick wishing to relieve his painQ
His pockets search'd but search'd in vainQ
And so at last he did declareE
He had not left a farthing thereE
-
The beggar turn'd with face of griefR
And look of patient unbeliefR
While Richard now his folly blamedS
And felt both sorry and ashamedS
-
'I wish ' said he but wishing's vainQ
'I had my money back againT
And had not spent my last to payU
For what I only threw awayU
-
'Another time I'll take adviceV
And not buy things because they're niceV
But rather save my little storeK
To give to those who want it more '-
