George And The Chimney-sweep Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFF GHG IJI HKHKLML NJN OPOP

HIS petticoats now George cast offA
For he ws four years oldB
His trousers were of nankeen stuffC
With buttons bright as goldB
'May I ' said George 'just go abroadD
My pretty clothes to showE
May I mamma but speak the word 'F
The answer was 'No no 'F
-
'Go run below George in the courtG
But go not in the streetH
Lest boys with you should make some sportG
Or gipsies you should meet '-
Yet though forbidden he went outI
That other boys might spyJ
And proudly there he walk'd aboutI
And thought 'How fine am I '-
-
But whilst he strutted through the streetH
With looks both vain and pertK
A sweep boy pass'd whom not to meetH
He slipp'd into the dirtK
The sooty lad whose heart was kindL
To help him quickly ranM
And grasp'd his arm with 'Never mindL
You're up my little man '-
-
Sweep wiped his clothes with labour vainN
And begg'd him not to cryJ
And when he'd blacken'd every stainN
Said 'Little sir good bye '-
Poor George almost as dark as sweepO
And smear'd in dress and faceP
Bemoans with sobs both loud and deepO
His well deserved disgraceP
