The Spinet Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBA CDCDCD

My heart an old Spinet with stringsA
To laughter chiefly turned but someB
That Fate has practised hard on dumbB
They answer not whoever singsA
The ghosts of half forgotten thingsA
Will touch the keys with fingers numbB
The little mocking spirits comeB
And thrill it with their fairy wingsA
-
A jingling harmony it makesC
My heart my lyre my old SpinetD
And now a memory it wakesC
And now the music means forgetD
And little heed the player takesC
Howe'er the thoughtful critic fretD
