King Romance was wounded deepB
All his knights were dead and goneC
All his court was fallen on sleepB
In a vale of AvalonD
Nay men said he will not comeE
Any night or any mornF
Nay his puissant voice is dumbE
Silent his enchanted hornF
-
King Romance was forfeitedG
Banished from his Royal homeH
With a price upon his headI
Driven with sylvan folk to roamH
King Romance is fallen bannedJ
Cried his foemen overboldJ
Broken is the wizard wandJ
All the stories have been toldJ
-
Then you came from South and NorthK
From Tugela from the TweedJ
Blazoned his achievements forthK
King Romance is come indeedJ
All his foes are overthrownL
All their wares cast out in scornF
King Romance hath won his ownL
And the lands where he was bornF
-
Marsac at adventure ridesM
Felon men meet felon scatheK
Micah Clarke is taking sidesM
For King Monmouth and the FaithK
For a Cause or for a lassN
Men are willing to be slainO
And the dungeons of the BassN
Hold a prisoner againP
-
King Romance with wand of goldJ
Sways the realms he ruled of yoreQ
Hills Dalgetty roamed of oldJ
Valleys of enchanted KorQ
Waves his sceptre o'er the islesR
Claims the pirates' treasuriesS
Through innumerable milesR
Of the siren haunted seasS
-
Elfin folk of coast and caveT
Laud him in the woven danceU
All the tribes of wold and waveT
Bow the knee to King RomanceU
Wand'ring voices Chaucer knewA
On the mountain and the mainO
Cry the haunted forest throughA
KING ROMANCE HAS COME AGAINP
