Oh blessed be the cart that takesA
Away my books my curse my clogB
Blessed the auctioneer who makesA
Their inefficient catalogueC
-
Blessed the purchasers who payD
However little less were fitE
Blessed the rooms the rainy dayD
The knock out and the end of itE
-
For I am weary of the sportF
That seemed a while agone so sweetG
Of Elzevirs an inch too shortF
And First Editions incompleteG
-
Weary of crests and coats of armsH
Attributed to PadeloupD
The sham Deromes have lost their charmsH
The things Le Gascon did not doI
-
I never read the cataloguesJ
Of rubbish that come thick as rooksK
But most I loathe the dreary dogsL
That write in prose or worse on booksK
-
Large paper surely cannot hideM
Their grammar nor excuse their rhymeN
The anecdotes that they provideM
Are older than the dawn of timeN
-
Ye bores of every shape and sizeO
Who make a tedium of delightP
Good bye the last of my good byesO
Good night to all your clan good nightP
-
-
-
Thus in a sullen fit we sworeQ
But on mature reflectionR
Went on collecting more and moreQ
And kept our old collectionR
