People of Peace a peaceful manB
Well worthy of your love was heC
Who while the roaring Garry ranB
Red with the life blood of DundeeC
While coats were turning crowns were fallingD
Wandered along his valley stillE
And heard your mystic voices callingD
From fairy knowe and haunted hillE
He heard he saw he knew too wellF
The secrets of your fairy clanB
You stole him from the haunted dellF
Who never more was seen of manB
Now far from heaven and safe from hellF
Unknown of earth he wanders freeC
Would that he might return and tellF
Of his mysterious CompanyC
For we have tired the Folk of PeaceG
No more they tax our corn and oilH
Their dances on the moorland ceaseG
The Brownie stints his wonted toilH
No more shall any shepherd meetI
The ladies of the fairy clanB
Nor are their deathly kisses sweetI
On lips of any earthly manB
And half I envy him who nowJ
Clothed in her Court's enchanted greenK
By moonlit loch or mountain's browJ
Is Chaplain to the Fairy QueenK
