The Contented Angler Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGDGD HIHIJDJD

The Angler hath a jolly lifeA
Who by the rail runs downB
And leaves his business and his wifeA
And all the din of townB
The wind down stream is blowing straightC
And nowhere cast can heD
Then lo he doth but sit and waitC
In kindly companyD
-
The miller turns the water offE
Or folk be cutting weedF
While he doth at misfortune scoffE
From every trouble freedF
Or else he waiteth for a riseG
And ne'er a rise may seeD
For why there are not any fliesG
To bear him companyD
-
Or if he mark a rising troutH
He straightway is caught upI
And then he takes his flasket outH
And drinks a rousing cupI
Or if a trout he chance to hookJ
Weeded and broke is heD
And then he finds a godly bookJ
Instructive companyD
