The Cannibal Zeus'a.d. 160 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBA CCDEEF

None elder city doth the Sun beholdA
Than ancient Lycosura 'twas begunB
Ere Zeus the meat of mortals learned to shunB
And here hath he a grove whose haunted foldA
The driven deer seek and huntsmen dread 'tis toldA
That whoso fares within that forest dunB
Thenceforth shall cast no shadow in the SunB
Ay and within the year his life is coldA
-
Hard by dwelt he who while the Gods deigned eatC
At good men's tables gave them dreadful meatC
A child he slew his mountain altar greenD
Here still hath Zeus with rites untold of meE
Piteous but as they are let these things beE
And as from the beginning they have beenF
