How The Maid Marched From Blois Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AA AABC DDDEFDGGHHII JJKKLLMMNO AAAAAAPP

Supposed to be narrated by James Power or Polwarth herA
Scottish banner painterA
-
-
The Maiden called for her great destrierA
But he lashed like a fiend when the Maid drew nearA
Lead him forth to the Cross she cried and he stoodB
Like a steed of bronze by the Holy RoodC
-
Then I saw the Maiden mount and rideD
With a good steel sperthe that swung by her sideD
And girt with the sword of the Heavenly BrideD
That is sained with crosses five for a signE
The mystical sword of St CatherineF
And the lily banner was blowing wideD
With the flowers of France on the field of fameG
And blent with the blossoms the Holy NameG
And the Maiden's blazon was shown on a shieldH
ARGENT A DOVE ON AN AZURE FIELDH
That banner was wrought by this hand ye seeI
For the love of the Maid and chivalryI
-
Her banner was borne by a page of graceJ
With hair of gold and a lady's faceJ
And behind it the ranks of her men were dressedK
Never a man but was clean confessedK
Jackman and archer lord and knightL
Their souls were clean and their hearts were lightL
There was never an oath there was never a laughM
And La Hire swore soft by his leading staffM
Had we died in that hour we had won the skiesN
And the Maiden had marched us through ParadiseO
-
A moment she turned to the people thereA
Who had come to gaze on the Maiden fairA
A moment she glanced at the ring she woreA
She murmured the Holy Name it boreA
Then For France and the King good people prayA
She spoke and she cried to us ON AND AWAYA
And the shouts broke forth and the flowers rained downP
And the Maiden led us to Orleans townP
