Before The Snow Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBA CDCDCD

The winter is upon us not the snowA
The hills are etched on the horizon bareB
The skies are iron grey a bitter airB
The meagre cloudlets shudder to and froA
One yellow leaf the listless wind doth blowA
Like some strange butterfly unclassed and rareB
Your footsteps ring in frozen alleys whereB
The black trees seem to shiver as you goA
-
Beyond lie church and steeple with their oldC
And rusty vanes that rattle as they veerD
A sharper gust would shake them from their holdC
Yet up that path in summer of the yearD
And past that melancholy pile we strolledC
To pluck wild strawberries with merry cheerD
