Ballade Of The Bookworm Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDBD ABABEDBD ABABBDBD C ADAD

Far in the Past I peer and seeA
A Child upon the Nursery floorB
A Child with books upon his kneeA
Who asks like Oliver for moreB
The number of his years is IVC
And yet in Letters hath he skillD
How deep he dives in Fairy loreB
The Books I loved I love them stillD
-
One gift the Fairies gave me ThreeA
They commonly bestowed of yoreB
The Love of Books the Golden KeyA
That opens the Enchanted DoorB
Behind it BLUEBEARD lurks and o'erE
And o'er doth JACK his Giants killD
And there is all ALADDIN'S storeB
The Books I loved I love them stillD
-
Take all but leave my Books to meA
These heavy creels of old we boreB
We fill not now nor wander freeA
Nor wear the heart that once we woreB
Not now each River seems to pourB
His waters from the Muses' hillD
Though something's gone from stream and shoreB
The Books I loved I love them stillD
-
ENVOYC
-
Fate that art Queen by shore and seaA
We bow submissive to thy willD
Ah grant by some benign decreeA
The Books I loved to love them stillD
