Ballade Of Sleep Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBABACAC ABABBABACAC ABABBABACAC D BECBAC

The hours are passing slowA
I hear their weary treadB
Clang from the tower and goA
Back to their kinsfolk deadB
Sleep death's twin brother dreadB
Why dost thou scorn me soA
The wind's voice overheadB
Long wakeful here I knowA
And music from the steepC
Where waters fall and flowA
Wilt thou not hear sue SleepC
-
All sounds that might bestowA
Rest on the fever'd bedB
All slumb'rous sounds and lowA
Are mingled here and wedB
And bring no drowsihedB
Shy dreams flit to and froA
With shadowy hair dispreadB
With wistful eyes that glowA
And silent robes that sweepC
Thou wilt not hear me noA
Wilt thou not hear me SleepC
-
What cause hast thou to showA
Of sacrifice unspedB
Of all thy slaves belowA
I most have labouredB
With service sung and saidB
Have cull'd such buds as blowA
Soft poppies white and redB
Where thy still gardens growA
And Lethe's waters weepC
Why then art thou my foeA
Wilt thou not hear me SleepC
-
ENVOYD
-
Prince ere the dark be shredB
By golden shafts ere nowE
And long the shadows creepC
Lord of the wand of leadB
Soft footed as the snowA
Wilt thou not hear me SleepC
