Ballade Of Difficult Rhymes Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCBC ABABBCBC ABABBCBC C ACAC

With certain rhymes 'tis hard to dealA
For 'silver' we have ne'er a rhymeB
On 'orange' as on orange peelA
The bard has slipped full many a timeB
With 'babe' there's scarce a sound will chimeB
Though 'astrolabe' fits like a gloveC
But ye that on Parnassus climbB
Why why are rhymes so rare to LOVEC
-
A rhyme to 'cusp ' to beg or stealA
I've sought from evensong to primeB
But vain is my poetic zealA
There's not one sound is worth a 'dime'B
'Bilge ' 'coif ' 'scarf ' 'window' deeds of crimeB
I'd do to gain the rhymes thereofC
Nor shrink from acts of moral grimeB
Why why are rhymes so rare to LOVEC
-
To 'dove' my fancies flit and wheelA
Like butterflies on banks of thymeB
'Above' or 'shove' alas I feelA
They're too much used to be sublimeB
I scorn with angry pantomimeB
The thought of 'move' pronounced as muvC
Ah in Apollo's golden climeB
Why why are rhymes so rare to LOVEC
-
ENVOIC
-
Prince of the lute and lyre revealA
New rhymes fresh minted from aboveC
Nor still be deaf to our appealA
Why WHY are rhymes so rare to LOVEC
