The painted Briton built his moundA
And left his celts and clayB
On yon fair slope of sunlit groundA
That fronts your garden gayB
The Roman came he bore the swayB
He bullied bought and soldC
Your fountain sweeps his works awayB
Beside your manor oldC
-
But still his crumbling urns are foundA
Within the window bayB
Where once he listened to the soundA
That lulls you day by dayB
The sound of summer winds at playB
The noise of waters coldC
To Yarty wandering on their wayB
Beside your manor oldC
-
The Roman fell his firm set boundA
Became the Saxon's stayB
The bells made music all aroundA
For monks in cloisters greyB
Till fled the monks in disarrayB
From their warm chantry's foldC
Old Abbots slumber as they mayB
Beside your manor oldC
-
ENVOYD
-
Creeds empires peoples all decayB
Down into darkness rolledC
May life that's fleet be sweet I prayB
Beside your manor oldC
