A Galloway Garland Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDC EFEGGDF HIHIIDI

We know not on these hills of oursA
The fabled asphodel of GreeceB
That filleth with immortal flowersA
Fields where the heroes are at peaceB
Not ours are myrtle buds like theseC
That breathe o'er isles where memories dwellD
Of Sappho in enchanted seasC
-
We meet not on our upland moorE
The singing Maid of HeliconF
You may not hear her music pureE
Float on the mountain meres withdrawnG
The Muse of Greece the Muse is goneG
But we have songs that please us wellD
And flowers we love to look uponF
-
More sweet than Southern myrtles farH
The bruised Marsh myrtle breatheth keenI
Parnassus names the flower the starH
That shines among the well heads greenI
The bright Marsh asphodels betweenI
Marsh myrtle and Marsh asphodelD
May crown the Northern Muse a queenI
