| When I wake up in the morning already tired in great pain | C |

| Like a door hinge that has lasted to be oiled | E |

| Yes the sun rises but instead of hope | F |
| It only reveals the lines on my face | G |
| Each one a scar of time | H |

| The legs that once carried me like a drumbeat | I |
| Now stumble like a shattered twig | J |

| Nights are becoming long still sleep runs away | K |
| Making the clock beat louder than my heart | L |

| My head remembers the stories | M |
| But my tongue always betrays me | N |
| stammering like a baby learning its language | O |

| Inside me I am still young | P |
| But my back bends as if the soil is already pulling me down | Q |
| Even laughter hurts because it shakes my chest like stones in a big calabash | R |

| Old age is a funeral that drags on | S |
| Every day you bury a friend | T |
| Until you start rehearsing your own burial in silence | U |

| It is forgetting the names of your own children | V |
| watching their faces fade like smoke | W |

| Time is not taking me at once it is eating me slowly | N |
