Imagine a life full of sorrow regret and painA
From the very first to the very lastB
With every day seeming the sameC
No joy no laughter or smileD
Just tears and shame with gloomy facesE
In tattered clothes they roamF
Always in search of a homeF
Begging and sometimes fastingG
Their lives are never rosyH
The same Karamojong teenagersI
With their BabiesJ
Leaving a life of pain so vast no foodK
No joy just a future so coyL
Young and old men women and girlsM
All are suffering in their world with Pale and scaly skinN
Countless lice eggs in their hair with dirty nauseating unwashed clothesO
It's such a sin they might have committedP
Blood red eyes and dirty coiled hairQ
In their place they are always awareQ
Pondering and afraid of what the next day will bringG
Insulted laughed at and arrestedP
For living a life as they have testedP
As early as threeH
They have tasted all sorts of dangerous drugsR
They have found a resting place in marijuana kuba cigarette alcoholS
The list goes on and onT
Don t they really have care takersI
Do they really have a creatorU
And If they have one could he be the same as oursI
Is it a sin they committed to deserve such a lifeV
So cruel and so unfitW
Why are they on the streets of all citiesJ
Seen as less and always in needX
Are they not human like usY
With hearts and soulsZ
Do they not bleedX
Do they not deserve to live a lifeV
Free from suffering and strifeV
Do they not deserve a placeA2
Where they can smile and also embraceA2
I love the KaramojongsA2
But their lives deserve a songB2
A song of hope and loveC2
A brighter futureU
Where they will all belongB2

Poet's note: I wrote the poem based on a true story about the lives of karamojongs, these are a group of people leaving in the north eastern part of Uganda in East Africa. it is only poverty, bad feeding, mulnourishment, death and drought that can describe the people in Karamoja.
