In The Butcher House. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEEFCCGHGIJJKKLLM BDDDDNO

In the butcher houseA
A place of horror where death is so nearB
No joy or delightC
Only sorrow and despair reignD
All air is thick with Graaf's morbid scentE
As the animals are enclosed with no chance to repentE
Their fate is sealedF
With no escape in sightC
Hunger gnaws at them a constant blightC
As they wait to be slaughtered they standG
The weaker animals are takenH
At the Merciless butcher's commandG
No rights no privileges at the moment to claimI
Starvation and pain the animal s constant fateJ
In this gruesome place where life is so greatJ
The first animal to complain is the first to dieK
As the butcher's knife slices with a sighK
No mercy or pity on this hellish groundL
Only the strong and the ruthless are foundL
Fights break out among the animals hereM
In this vicious cycle of death and fearB
Only sadness and gloom in the butcher house's domainD
Where life is so cheap and death's just a gainD
So if you hear the cries of animals in painD
Remember the butcher house where they're all slainD
And life is just a fleeting memoryN

Poet's note: The poem is a commentary on the current state of politics in certain African countries, where leaders are known to resort to violence and oppression in order to hold onto power. The poem compares the people of these countries to animals in a slaughterhouse, highlighting their helplessness and lack of agency in the face of powerful leaders. The poem also touches on the impact that these leaders have on the people they govern, describing how the people have given up on themselves and are resigned to their fate. However, it also offers a message of hope, urging the people to rise up and fight for their rights and freedoms, and to build a better future for themselves. Overall, the poem is a powerful indictment of the kind of leadership that is all too common in certain parts of Africa, and a call to action for people to take control of their own destinies and create a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
