My Love my Love it was a day in June | B |
A mellow drowsy golden afternoon | B |
And all the eager people thronging came | C |
To that great hall drawn by the magic name | C |
Of one a high magician who can raise | D |
The spirits of the past and future days | D |
And draw the dreams from out the secret breast | E |
Giving them life and shape | F |
I with the rest | E |
Sat there athirst atremble for the sound | G |
And as my aimless glances wandered round | G |
Far off across the hush'd expectant throng | H |
I saw your face that fac'd mine | I |
Clear and strong | H |
Rush'd forth the sound a mighty mountain stream | J |
Across the clust'ring heads mine eyes did seem | J |
By subtle forces drawn your eyes to meet | K |
- | |
Then you the melody the summer heat | K |
Mingled in all my blood and made it wine | I |
Straight I forgot the world's great woe and mine | I |
My spirit's murky lead grew molten fire | L |
Despair itself was rapture | L |
Ever higher | L |
Stronger and clearer rose the mighty strain | M |
Then sudden fell then all was still again | N |
And I sank back quivering as one in pain | M |
Brief was the pause then 'mid a hush profound | G |
Slow on the waiting air swell'd forth a sound | G |
So wondrous sweet that each man held his breath | O |
A measur'd mystic melody of death | O |
Then back you lean'd your head and I could note | P |
The upward outline of your perfect throat | P |
And ever as the music smote the air | Q |
Mine eyes from far held fast your body fair | Q |
And in that wondrous moment seem'd to fade | R |
My life's great woe and grow an empty shade | R |
Which had not been nor was not | S |
And I knew | T |
Not which was sound and which O Love was you | T |
