The Shafter Shafted Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBACCDEDEEDFF GHGHHGHH

Well James McMillan Shafter you're a JudgeA
At least you were when last I knew of youB
And if the people since have made you budgeA
I did not notice it I've much to doB
Without endeavoring to follow throughB
The miserable squabbles dust and smudgeA
The fate of even the veteran contendersC
Who fight with flying colors and suspendersC
Being a Judge 'tis natural and wrongD
That you should villify the public pressE
Save while you are a candidate That songD
Is easy quite to sing and I confessE
It wins applause from hearers who have lessE
Of spiritual graces than belongD
To audiences of another kidneyF
Men for example like Sir Philip SidneyF
-
Newspapers so you say don't always treatG
The Judges with respect That may be soH
And still no harm done for I swear I'll eatG
My legs and in the long hereafter goH
Snake like upon my belly if you'll showH
All Judges are respectable and sweetG
For some of them are rogues and the world's laughter'sH
Directed at some others for they're ShaftersH
