Unalterable the waters change their hue | B |
Beneath the flattery of alien skies | A |
From jade to silver and from bronze to blue | B |

Sunrise and sunset spread their lovely light | C |
As slow as solemn music in the North | D |
But southward like a dart descends the night | C |
And like a meteor the day breaks forth | D |

And faiths and manners vary friends they say | E |
And even lovers of a constant mind | F |
Not the light loves we meet upon our way | E |
But those enchained by vows we left behind | F |

Only unchanged the patterned stars endure | G |
As when they first assured or threatened man | H |
Still Vega glitters crystalline and pure | G |
Still like an angry eye Aldebaran | I |
