A Character Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEA FGHGHF IJAJAK LMNOPL QRSRSQ

With a half glance upon the skyA
At night he said 'The wanderingsB
Of this most intricate UniverseC
Teach me the nothingness of things 'D
Yet could not all creation pierceE
Beyond the bottom of his eyeA
-
He spake of beauty that the dullF
Saw no divinity in grassG
Life in dead stones or spirit in airH
Then looking as 'twere in a glassG
He smooth'd his chin and sleek'd his hairH
And said the earth was beautifulF
-
He spake of virtue not the godsI
More purely when they wish to charmJ
Pallas and Juno sitting byA
And with a sweeping of the armJ
And a lack lustre dead blue eyeA
Devolved his rounded periodsK
-
Most delicately hour by hourL
He canvass'd human mysteriesM
And trod on silk as if the windsN
Blew his own praises in his eyesO
And stood aloof from other mindsP
In impotence of fancied powerL
-
With lips depress'd as he were meekQ
Himself unto himself he soldR
Upon himself himself did feedS
Quiet dispassionate and coldR
And other than his form of creedS
With chisell'd features clear and sleekQ
