Honesty Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDDE AFGHIJDK LMNDOOPO QDRSTUN

I am humble He saidA
But what of being honest another askedB
I am gentle He yet professedC
No what anent honestyD
That shapes one's integrityD
He was again questionedE
-
I am friendly He proudly saidA
Seeming to have the world by him accommodatedF
No are you uncorrupted to themG
And corrigible to all menH
The other retortedI
What got I to do with corrigibility he queriedJ
For none could in any way be honest perpetuallyD
So we do have to compromise at timesK
-
No no no that is wrong the other beganL
Honesty is the best virtueM
In which all other virtues prevailN
The evidence of man's generosityD
For an honest man is an hundred times betterO
Than a benevolent man in wonderO
He pays Peter in Paul's coinP
And steals from a man and do it a good to anotherO
-
What if the world were only generousQ
With no sign of honestyD
Would it stand itR
For it brings the worlds to a worldS
And peoples to a peopleT
But many lack this golden efficacy of lifeU
Yes with it all other virtues prevailN
