Tezcotzinco Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDEDED

Though thou art now a ruin bare and coldA
Thou wert sometime the garden of a kingB
The birds have sought a lovelier place to singB
The flowers are few It was not so of oldA
It was not thus when hand in hand there strolledA
Through arbors perfumed with undying SpringB
Bare bodies beautiful brown glisteningB
Decked with green plumes and rings of yellow goldA
Do you suppose the herdsman sometimes hearsC
Vague echoes borne beneath the moon's pale rayD
From those old old far off forgotten yearsE
Who knows Here where his ancient kings held swayD
He stands Their names are strangers to his earsE
Even their memory has passed awayD
