| Plunged for so long in darkness and in dearth | B |
| Should be revived by you and stir and start | A |
| As by warm April now reviving Earth | B |
| I am the field of undulating grass | C |
| And you the gentle perfumed breath of Spring | D |
| And all my lyric being when you pass | C |
| Is bowed and filled with sudden murmuring | D |
| I asked you nothing and expected less | E |
| But with that deep impassioned tenderness | F |
| Of one approaching what he most adores | G |
| I only wished to lose a little space | H |
