Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDEFGEFGE| The rooks aclamor when one enters here | A |
| Startle the empty towers far overhead | B |
| Through gaping walls the summer fields appear | C |
| Green tan or poppy mingled tinged with red | B |
| The courts where revel rang deep grass and moss | D |
| Cover and tangled vines have overgrown | E |
| The gate where banners blazoned with a cross | D |
| Rolled forth to toss round Tyre and Ascalon | E |
| Decay consumes it The old causes fade | F |
| And fretting for the contest many a heart | G |
| Waits their Tyrtaeus to chant on the new | E |
| Oh pass him by who in this haunted shade | F |
| Musing enthralled has only this much art | G |
| To love the things the birds and flowers love too | E |
