A Jewish Cemetery In Germany Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDEFGHIJJKLFHCL D

On a little hill amid fertile fields lies a small cemeteryA
a Jewish cemetery behind a rusty gate hidden by shrubsB
abandoned and forgotten Neither the sound of prayerC
nor the voice of lamentation is heard thereC
for the dead praise not the LordD
Only the voices of our children ring out seeking gravesE
and cheeringF
each time they find one like mushrooms in the forest likeG
wild strawberriesH
Here's another grave There's the name of my mother'sI
mothers and a name from the last century And here's a nameJ
and there And as I was about to brush the moss from the nameJ
Look an open hand engraved on the tombstone the graveK
of a kohenL
his fingers splayed in a spasm of holiness and blessingF
and here's a grave concealed by a thicket of berriesH
that has to be brushed aside like a shock of hairC
from the face of a beautiful beloved womanL
