ENGLAND England EnglandA
Girdled by ocean and skiesB
And the power of a world and the heart of a raceC
And a hope that never diesB
-
England England EnglandA
Wherever a true heart beatsD
Wherever the rivers of commerce flowE
Wherever the bugles of conquest blowE
Wherever the glories of liberty growE
'Tis the name that the world repeatsD
-
And ye who dwell in the shadowE
Of the century sculptured pilesF
Where sleep our century honoured deadG
Whilst the great world thunders overheadG
And far out miles on milesF
Beyond the smoke of the mighty townH
The blue Thames dimples and smilesF
Not yours alone the glory of oldI
Of the splendid thousand yearsJ
Of Britain's might and Britain's rightK
And the brunt of British spearsJ
Not yours alone for the great world roundL
Ready to dare and doM
Scot and Celt and Norman and DaneN
With the Northman's sinew and heart and brainN
And the Northman's courage for blessing or baneN
Are England's heroes tooM
-
North and south and east and westO
Wherever their triumphs beP
Their glory goes home to the ocean girt isleQ
Where the heather blooms and the roses smileQ
With the green isle under her leeP
And if ever the smoke of an alien gunR
Should threaten her iron reposeS
Shoulder to shoulder against the worldT
Face to face with her foesS
-
Scot and Celt and Saxon are oneR
Where the glory of England goesS
-
And we of the newer and vaster WestO
Where the great war banners are furledO
And commerce hurries her teeming hostsU
And the cannon are silent along our coastsU
Saxon and Gaul Canadians claimV
A part in the glory and pride and aimV
Of the Empire that girdles the worldO
-
England England EnglandO
Wherever the daring heartO
By Arctic floe or torrid strandO
Thy heroes play their partO
For as long as conquest holds the earthW
Or commerce sweeps the seaP
By orient jungle or western plainN
Will the Saxon spirit beP
And whatever the people that dwell beneathX
Or whatever the alien tongueY
Over the freedom and peace of the worldO
Is the flag of England flungY
Till the last great freedom is foundO
And the last great truth be taughtO
Till the last great deed be doneR
And the last great battle is foughtO
Till the last great fighter is slain in the last great fightO
And the war wolf is dead in his denZ
England breeder of hope and valour and mightO
Iron mother of menZ
-
Yea England England EnglandO
Till honour and valour are deadO
Till the world's great cannons rustO
Till the world's great hopes are dustO
Till faith and freedom be fledO
Till wisdom and justice have passedO
To sleep with those who sleep in the many chambered vastO
Till glory and knowledge are charnelled dust in dustO
To all that is best in the world's unrestO
-
In heart and mind you are wedO
While out from the Indian jungleA2
To the far Canadian snowsS
Over the East and over the WestO
Over the worst and over the bestO
The flag of the world to its winds unfurledO
The blood red ensign blowsS
