The Battle Of The Bight Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCCB DEDEFFFF GHGHIIIH JKJLMMNL

Had I the fabled herbA
That brought to life the deadB
Whom would I dare disturbA
In his eternal bedB
Great Grenville would I wakeC
And with glad tidings makeC
The soul of mighty DrakeC
Heave up a glorying headB
-
As rose the misty sunD
Our men the North Sea scannedE
And each rejoicing gunD
Welcomed a Foe at handE
And thundering its delightF
Opened its mouth outrightF
And bit them in the BightF
The Bight of HelgolandF
-
With Captains who could eachG
Do aught but yield or fleeH
With guns that spake the speechG
Shall keep this Kingdom freeH
We hammered to their doomI
Four Giants mid the gloomI
And one to a fiercer tombI
Sent blazing down the seaH
-
Sleep on O Drake sleep wellJ
In days not wholly direK
Grenville whom nought could quellJ
Unquenched is still thy fireL
And thou that hadst no peerM
Nelson thou need'st not fearM
Thy sons and heirs are hereN
Nor shall they shame their sireL
