Our Men Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAAABABA CACADADA EFEFGBGB HIHIFJFJ KLKLDBDB

Our men they are our strongholdA
Our bastioned wall unscaledA
Who against Hate and Wrong holdA
This Realm that never quailedA
Who bear the noblest burdenB
Life lays on shoulders broadA
Asking not fame or guerdonB
Asking not gold or laudA
-
-
They go where England speeds themC
They laugh and jest at FateA
They go where England needs themC
And dream not they are greatA
And oft 'mid smoke and smotherD
By blinding warstorm fannedA
Sons of our mighty MotherD
They fall that she may standA
-
-
Our sailors save when sleepingE
The light sleep of the seaF
Their ancient watch are keepingE
Mother for thine and theeF
They guard thy maiden daughtersG
From worse than death or painB
The men who ward the watersG
The men who man the mainB
-
-
When navies meet and wrestleH
And their vast arms strike homeI
Vessel with monstrous vesselH
Matched on the flame lit foamI
What fleet returns in gloryF
What fleet makes haste to flyJ
O Sea that knowest our storyF
Thou thou canst best replyJ
-
-
Then hail to all who gave usK
Their might of arm and soulL
Hot and athirst to save usK
To heal and keep us wholeL
Whether they serve where yonderD
Far burrowing trenches runB
Or where the ocean thunderD
Peals with the thundering gunB
