Liege Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAABCCDE FFFGHHHG IIIJKKKJ

Betwixt the Foe and France was sheA
France the immortal France the freeA
The Foe like one vast living seaA
Drew nighB
He dreamed that none his tide would stayC
But when he bade her to make wayC
She through her cannon answered 'NayD
Not I 'E
-
No tremor and no fear she showedF
She held the pass she barred the roadF
While Death's unsleeping feet bestrodeF
The groundG
So long as deeds of noblest worthH
Are sung with joy and tears and mirthH
Her glory shall to the ends of the EarthH
ResoundG
-
Watched by a world that yearned to aidI
Lonely she stood but undismayedI
Resplendent was the part she playedI
And pureJ
Praised be her heroes proud her sonsK
She threw her soul into the gunsK
Her name shall with the loveliest onesK
EndureJ
