The Sorrows Of The Blind Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEECCEEFFGGEE HIEEJJEEKK LAAMMEENNOO

Pity the sorrows of the poor blindA
For they can but little comfort findA
As they walk along the streetB
They know not where to put their feetB
They are deprived of that earthly joyC
Of seeing either man woman or boyC
Sad and lonely through the world they goD
Not knowing a friend from a foeD
Nor the difference betwixt day and nightE
For the want of their eyesightE
The blind mother cannot see her darling boyC
That was once her soul's joyC
By day and nightE
Since she lost her precious sightE
To her the world seems dark and drearF
And she can find no comfort hereF
She once found pleasure in reading booksG
But now pale and careworn are her looksG
Since she has lost her eyesightE
Everything seems wrong and nothing rightE
-
The face of nature with all its beauties and livery greenH
Appears to the blind just like a dreamI
All things beautiful have vanished from their sightE
Which were once their heart's delightE
The blind father cannot see his beautiful child nor wifeJ
That was once the joy of his lifeJ
That he was wont to see at morn and nightE
When he had his eyesightE
All comfort has vanished from him nowK
And a dejected look hangs on his browK
-
Kind Christians all both great and smallL
Pity the sorrows of the blindA
They can but little comfort findA
Therefore we ought to be content with our lotM
And for the eyesight we have gotM
And pray to God both day and nightE
To preserve our eyesightE
To be always willing to help the blind in their distressN
And the Lord will surely blessN
And guard us by night and dayO
And remember us at the judgment dayO
