The River Of Leith Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CDEE FFGG HHII JHKK LLKK MMNN HHOO GGPP AAQQ BBNN AAQQ AARR

As I stood upon the Dean Bridge and viewed the beautiful sceneryA
I felt fascinated and my heart was full of gleeA
And I exclaimed in an ecstasy of delightB
In all my travels I never saw such a sightB
-
The scenery is so enchanting to look uponC
That all tourists will say Dull care be goneD
'Tis certainly a most lovely spotE
And once seen it can never be forgotE
-
Then away away to the River of LeithF
That springs from the land of heather and heathF
And view the gorgeous scenery on a fine summer dayG
I'm sure it will drive dull care awayG
-
The water fall near the Bridge is most beautiful to be seenH
As it falls and shines like crystal in the sunsheenH
And the sound can be heard all day longI
While the innocent trouts sing an aquatic songI
-
The glen is a cool spot in the summer timeJ
There the people can be shaded from the sunshineH
Under the spreading branches of the big treesK
And there's seats there to rest on if they pleaseK
-
Then near St Bernard's Well there's a shady bowerL
Where the lovers if they like can spend an hourL
And while they rest there at their easeK
They can make love to each other if they pleaseK
-
The water of St Bernard's Well is very niceM
But to get a drink of it one penny is the priceM
I think in justice the price is rather highN
To give a penny for a drink when one feels dryN
-
The braes of the River Leith is most charming to be seenH
With its beautiful trees and shrubberies greenH
And as the tourist gazes on the river in the valley belowO
His heart with joy feels all aglowO
-
There the little trouts do sport and playG
During the live long summer dayG
While the bee and butterfly is on the wingP
And with the singing of birds the glen doth ringP
-
The walk underneath the Dean Bridge is lovely to seeA
And as ye view the scenery it will fill your heart with gleeA
It is good for the people's health to be walking thereQ
As they gaze on the beauties of Nature and inhale pure airQ
-
The Dean Bridge is a very magnificent sightB
Because from the basement it is a great heightB
And it seems most attractive to the eyeN
And arrests the attention of strangers as they pass byN
-
The braes of Belgrave Crescent is lovely to seeA
With its beautiful walks and green shrubberyA
'Tis health for the people that lives near by thereQ
To walk along the bonny walks and breathe the sweet airQ
-
Therefore all lovers of the picturesque bo advised by meA
And the beautiful scenery of the River Leith go and seeA
And I am sure you will get a very great treatR
Because the River of Leith scenery cannot be beatR
