Beautiful Hill o' BalgayA
With your green frees and flowers fairB
'Tis health for the old and youngA
For to be walking thereB
To breathe the fragrant airB
Emanating from the green bushesC
And beautiful flowers thereB
Then they can through the burying ground roamD
And read the epitaphs on the tombstonesE
Before they go homeD
There the lovers can wander safe arm in armF
For policemen are there to protect them from harmF
And to watch there all dayG
So that no accident can befall themH
In the Hill o' BalgayA
Then there's Harry Scott's mansionI
Most beautiful to be seenJ
Also the Law Hill likewise the Magdalen GreenJ
And the silvery TayG
Rolling on its wayG
And the coast of FifeK
And the beautiful town of St AndrewsL
Where Cardinal Beaten lost his lifeK
And to be seen on a clear summer dayG
From the top of the beautiful Hill o' BalgayA
On the opening day of the Hill o' BalgayA
It was a most beautiful sight to seeM
Numerous bands with flags and banners assembled in DundeeM
All in grand procession with spirits light that dayG
March'd out the Blackness Road to the Hill o' BalgayA
The Earl o' Dalhousie was there on the opening dayG
Also Harry Scott the young laird o' BalgayA
And he made a great speech to the people thereB
And they applauded him with cries that rent the airB
The Earl o' Dalhousie made a fine speech in his turnN
And said there was only one thing that caus'd him to mournO
There was no profection from the rain in the Hill o' BalgayA
And he would give another five hundred pounds awayG
For to erect a shed for the people upon a rainy dayG
To keep them dry and comfortable on the Hill o' BalgayA
Then the people applauded him with three loud cheersP
For their hearts were all opened and flowed with joyous tearsQ
So they all dispers'd quietly with spirits light that dayG
And that ended the inauguration of the Hill o' BalgayA
