Beautiful Sun with thy golden raysA
To God the wise Creator be all praiseA
For thou nourisheth all the creationB
Wherever there is found to be animationB
-
Without thy heat we could not liveC
Then praise to God we ought to giveD
For thou makest the fruits and provisions to growE
To nourish all creatures on earth belowE
-
Thou makest the hearts of the old feel gladF
Likewise the young child and the ladF
And the face of Nature to look green and gayG
And the little children to sport and playG
-
Thou also givest light unto the MoonH
Which certainly is a very great boonH
To all God's creatures here belowE
Throughout the world where'er they goE
-
How beautiful thou look'st on a summer mornI
When thou sheddest thy effulgence among the yellow cornI
Also upon lake and river and the mountain topsJ
Whilst thou leavest behind the most lovely dewdropsJ
-
How beautiful thou seem'st in the firmament aboveK
As I gaze upon thee my heart fills with loveK
To God the great Creator Who has placed thee thereL
Who watches all His creatures with an eye of careL
-
Thou makest the birds to sing on the treeM
Also by meadow mountain and leaM
And the lark high poised up in airL
Carolling its little song with its heart free from careL
-
Thou makest the heart of the shepherd feel gayG
As he watches the little lambkins at their innocent playG
While he tends them on the hillside all dayG
Taking care that none of them shall go astrayG
-
Thou cheerest the weary traveller while on his wayG
During the livelong summer dayG
As he admires the beautiful scenery while passing alongN
And singing to himself a stave of a songN
-
Thou cheerest the tourist while amongst the Highland hillsJ
As he views their beautiful sparkling rillsJ
Glittering like diamonds by the golden raysJ
While the hills seem to offer up to God their praiseJ
-
While the bee from flower to flower does roamO
To gather honey and carry it homeO
While it hums its little song in the beautiful sunshineP
And seemingly to thank the Creator divineP
-
For the honey it hath gathered during the dayG
In the merry month of MayG
When the flowers are in full bloomQ
Also the sweet honeysuckle and the broomQ
-
How beautiful thy appearance while setting in the westR
Whilst encircled with red and azure 'tis then thou look'st bestR
Then let us all thank God for thy golden lightS
In our prayers every morning and nightS
