Ye banks and braes o' bonnie TayA
Whaur me and my Mary oft did strayA
But noo she is dead and gone far awayA
Sae I maun mourn for lovely Mary the Maid o' the TayA
-
The first time I met her 'twas in the month of MayA
And the sun was shining bricht on the Silvery TayA
I asked her name and she modestly did sayA
Some fouks ca's me lovely Mary the Maid o' the TayA
-
Oh charming Mary o' the TayA
Queen o' my soul by nicht and dayA
But noo thou'rt gane and left me hereB
To weep for you sweet Mary dearC
-
Oh bonnie Mary o' the TayA
Joy o' my heart and Queen o' MayA
With thee I aye felt happy and gayA
While rambling with thee on the banks o' the TayA
-
Ye banks and braes o' bonnie TayA
With my Mary ye seemed ever gayA
But noo ye seem baith dark and drearC
For my puir heart ye canna cheerC
-
My Mary was handsome and fair to be seenD
She bad bonnie fair hair and twa blue eenD
And she was aye happy while we carelessly did strayC
Alang the banks o' the Silvery TayC
-
Oh Mary dear I mourn thy lossE
To me the world seems nought but drossE
Sae I maun mourn baith nicht and dayC
For my lovely Mary the Maid o' the TayC
