Fellow Citizens of DundeeA
I now must bid farewell to yeA
For I am going to London far awayB
But when I will return again I cannot sayB
-
Farewell Farewell to the bonnie banks o' the Silvery TayB
Also the beautiful Hill o' BalgayC
And the ill fated Bridge o' the Silvery TayB
Which I will remember when I am far awayB
-
Farewell to my friends and patrons allD
That rallied around me in the Music HallD
And those that has rallied around me to nightE
I shall not forget when out of sightE
-
And if I ever return to Dundee againF
I hope it will be with the laurels of fameG
Plac'd on my brow by dame fortune that fickle JadeH
And to Court her favour I am not afraidH
-
Farewell to every one in the Argyle HallD
That has Come to hear McGonagallD
Recite and sing his Songs to nightE
Which I hope will long be rernember'd when I'm out of sightE
-
Adieu to all my enemies that want to mock me when passing byI
But I excuse them for their ignorance and leave them to the most highI
And once again my friends and enemies I bid ye all good byeI
And when I am gone ye will for me heave a sighI
-
I return my thanks to my Chairman and my CommitteeA
For the Kindness they have always shown to meA
I hope the Lord will protect them when I am far awayB
And prosper them in all their undertakings by night and by dayB
