Bonnie Dundee In 1878 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFGGHHDDIIJ JEEJJJJCCCKKJJOh Bonnie Dundee I will sing in thy praise | A |
A few but true simple lays | A |
Regarding some of your beauties of the present day | B |
And virtually speaking there's none can them gainsay | B |
There's no other town I know of with you can compare | C |
For spinning mills and lasses fair | C |
And for stately buildings there's none can excel | D |
The beautiful Albert Institute or the Queen's Hotel | D |
For it is most handsome to be seen | E |
Where accommodation can be had for Duke Lord or Queen | E |
And the four pillars of the front are made of Aberdeen granite very fine | F |
And most beautiful does shine just like a looking glass | G |
And for beauty and grandeur there's none can them surpass | G |
And your fine shops in Reform Street | H |
Very few can with them compete | H |
For superfine goods there's none can excel | D |
From Inverness to Clerkenwell | D |
And your Tramways I must confess | I |
That they have proved a complete success | I |
Which I am right glad to see | J |
And a very great improvement to Bonnie Dundee | J |
And there's the Royal Arch most handsome to be seen | E |
Erected to the memory of our Most Gracious Queen | E |
Most magnificent to see | J |
And a very great honour to the people of Dundee | J |
Then there's the Baxter Park most beautiful to see | J |
And a great boon it is to the people of Dundee | J |
For there they can enjoy themselves when they are free from care | C |
By inhaling the perfumed air | C |
Emanating from the sweet flowers and green trees and shrubs there | C |
Oh Bonnie Dundee I must conclude my muse | K |
And to write in praise of thee my pen does not refuse | K |
Your beauties that I have alluded to are most worthy to see | J |
And in conclusion I will call thee Bonnie Dundee | J |
