Beautiful Comrie Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFF EEFF GGHH AAFF AAAA HABB

Ye lovers of the picturesque away awayA
To beautiful Comrie and have a holidayA
Aud bask in the sunahine and inhale the fragrant airB
Emanating from the woodlands and shrubberies thereB
-
The charming village of Comrie is most lovely to be seenC
Especially in the summer season when the trees are greenC
And near by is Loch Earn and its waters sparkling clearD
And as the tourist gazes thereon his spirits it will cheerD
-
Then St Fillans is a beautiful spot I must confessE
It is really a picture of rural lovelinessE
Because out of the quiet lake the river ripples merrilyF
And all round are hills beautiful in shape and nothing uncomelyF
-
The rocky knoll to the south is a most seductive placeE
And in the hotel there visitors will find every solaceE
And the flower decked cottages are charming to seeF
Also handsome villas suitable for visitors of high and low degreeF
-
Then there's St Fillan's Hill a prehistoric fortG
And visitors while there to it should resortG
And to the tourist the best approach is from the westH
Because in climbing the hill his strength it will testH
-
And descending the hill as best one mayA
The scene makes the tourist's heart feel gayA
And by the west side is reached a wooded deliF
And about two hundred yards from that there's St Fillan's WellF
-
Oh charming Comrie I must conclude my layA
And to write in praise of thee I virtually do sayA
That your lovely mountains and silver birches will drive dull care awayA
Therefore lovers of the picturesque away awayA
-
To beautiful Comrie end have a holidoyH
And I'm sure you will return with spirits light and gayA
After viewing the Sylvan beauties and hoary beeches thereB
Also pines ferns and beautiful oaks I do declareB
